About

Alex Donahue is an artist based in Southeast Wisconsin whose work centers on painting, disciplined drawing, and material study. His practice is grounded in close observation and careful construction, with an emphasis on how surface, scale, and medium shape visual meaning. Working primarily in oil, acrylic, and graphite, he approaches each piece through a process of preparatory studies, compositional testing, and refinement before committing to finished form.

Donahue’s work often engages traditional and figurative modes, drawing on historical approaches to image-making while remaining attentive to contemporary questions of clarity, hierarchy, and visual presence. Though sacred imagery and theological themes inform aspects of his work, they function as part of a broader investigation into craft, symbolism, and the role of images within structured visual systems.

He is currently completing a degree in Visual Communication (Graphic Design) at Concordia University Wisconsin, graduating in 2026. Alongside his academic studies, Donahue continues to develop a body of painting and drawing intended for large-scale and architectural contexts, with a focus on technical rigor and long-term durability.
